Al Khor Community houses employees of Qatargas and their families, a diverse group representing more than 60 nationalities. As we continue to grow, one of our goals is to ensure that we are doing the best job possible of ensuring that new residents of the Community are made to feel at home and settle in their new surroundings as comfortably as possible. Despite all differences, coming from various parts of the world, speaking different languages and having different cultures, our residents live as good neighbors and interact with each other in perfect harmony making the Community a fine place to live in.
For Qatargas, its position as leader in Qatar’s energy industry is an opportunity for us to support important social development initiatives that will continue to improve the lives of the people of this country. Al Khor Community is committed to providing valuable assistance to health, safety, education and environment causes for the residents of the Community as well as the local people.
Ensuring the health and well being of our residents is very important to Al Khor Community and our commitment to healthy living extends to the Community around us as well. We contribute to programs and events that benefit the Community, Al Khor Diabetes Association, Qatar Diabetes Association, ICBF, Qatar Cancer Society and Think Pink - Breast Cancer Awareness in Qatar to name a few.
Al Khor Community has done collections in cash and kind for almost every national disaster in the recent past. The Community has handed over donations to a number of approved charities, including Qatar Charity and Qatar Red Crescent Society.
Al Khor Community supports several committees like the Al Khor Torpedoes Swim Club, Al Khor Toastmasters, Gavel Club etc., besides numerous cultural committees and associations that ensure their cultural heritage is shared with the younger generations. We believe that education initiatives such as these are an investment into the future of our people and the country.
Al Khor Community is committed to building legacies that will have an impact on future generations. We want to create assets that are defined by behaviors, cultures and ways of thinking that put safety, quality and environmental protection first. Safety is paramount in the Community and some of the safety initiatives include a Home Fire Safety initiative, Road & Traffic Safety and general safety awareness programs particularly for the contractors working in the Community and the children, as they are our biggest assets. The bicycle safety program for kids includes check ups, helmets and road safety guidelines. The reverse parking program is yet another example of Al Khor Community’s effort to bench mark itself with the highest safety standards.
At the Community, we are committed to a cleaner, healthier environment for all to enjoy. We help protect the environment in many ways. We endeavor total compliance with our environmental policies and procedures as well as commitment with environmental legislative requirements. We venture the use of best industry practices and state of the art equipment and know how throughout the layout and operation of the Community.
Al Khor Community is associated with Qatar's Clean and Green into the Millennium and has worked to increase awareness for a clean environment and expand ecological diversity through a mangrove tree-planting program, as well as cleanup activities of local beaches in the past. Environmental Days are occasionally conducted in conjunction with AKIS students to increase awareness amongst a multicultural and diverse population. Al Khor Community's extensive and beautiful landscaping and greenery make this a wonderful oasis for several migratory birds sustaining the ecological diversity of the region. The Community was also chosen to host The Wings of Qatar exhibition. This exhibition was a means to raise employee awareness on the importance of respecting and protecting our wildlife and its natural environment and preserving it for the generations to come.
Recycling is a great way to conserve resources and reduce waste. At Al Khor Community, we recycle paper and cardboard, plastic bottles and drums, as well as aluminum cans. The latest add are our 'Biobin' composting containers for organic waste, that allows biodegradable materials to be converted to agricultural quality 'compost' for use in AKC landscaping initiatives.
We are very proud of our pioneering recycling program!
